Η ελιά «Προδρόμου», ξεκίνησε και πήρε το όνομά της, από το μοναστήρι του Τιμίου Προδρόμου. Το μοναστήρι βρίσκεται στα στενά του Αλιάκμονα, στα Πιέρια όρη, πολύ κοντά στην Βεργίνα. Εκεί για εκατοντάδες χρόνια, δοκιμάστηκε και προσαρμόστηκε στις καιρικές συνθήκες. Στα τόσα χρόνια, ούτε η παγωνιά αλλά, ούτε και οι καύσωνες, ήταν εμπόδιο στην ελιά «Προδρόμου», να ζεί και να παράγει.
